The Branch continues to monitor Doncaster's local real ale scene. If you have any news of new (or lost) outlets for real ale please let us know on (01302) 817743.

We had a very successful (and enjoyable) Pubs Week in February when Branch Chairman Gary Proctor organised quizzes in various pubs throughout our branch area. Also, Membership Secretary Ian Jones organised a Curry Night and Meet the Brewer (from 3 Rivers Brewery) at the "Gate House" in Doncaster Town Centre, and Social Secretary Claire Hughes organised a Social at the "Macintosh" at Goole (where licensee Mel Lockwood held a mini beer festival). The quizzes were at the "Red Lion" at Braithwell, the "Eden Arms" at Edenthorpe, the "Hungry Fox" at Beal and the "Ship" at Bawtry. A big thank you to all those pubs for your hospitality. Gary almost did too good a job, as Shaun at the "Hungry Fox" wanted him to do his quizzes on a permanent basis!

Our hard-working CAMRA members continue to visit our pubs to report the pub and beer news. I hope everyone appreciates them giving up their valuable time to do this research!

The "Eagle & Child" at Auckley continues to offer a marvellous selection of ever-changing beers (e.g. Theakston XB, Black Sheep Best Bitter, Idle Chef and Castle Rock Elsie Mo on a recent visit). The nearby "Blue Bell" at Blaxton had Timothy Taylor Landlord and Theakston Old Peculier available.

In Sprotbrough, the "Boat Inn" has been given a well-deserved Cask Marque accreditation and currently offers Black Sheep Best Bitter and Timothy Taylor Landlord. The "Newton" continues to provide one ever-changing guest beer - often Black Sheep, as it has proved the most popular. Well done! And the "Ivanhoe" serves a very good pint of Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter at an unbeatable price. Nearby, at Town End, the "Three Horse Shoes" has Tetley Bitter and a guest beer - recently Shepherd Neame Spitfire.

Now for some news from Bentley. The "Bay Horse" has started to provide a guest beer instead of the John Smith's Cask. I've had good reports on the quality, so this is brilliant news!

The "Sun Inn" on York Road continues to provide Marston's Pedigree plus an ever-changing guest beer. An excellent pint of Adnams Broadside was available recently. In Armthorpe, the "Acorn" still offers interesting beers. I've received a good report of some Hook Norton which could be enjoyed there in early April.

It goes without saying that the "Jemmy Hirst at the Rose & Crown" at Rawcliffe and the "Hickleton Village Hall" at Hickleton have maintained their usual excellence with an ever-changing array of interesting ales - far too many to mention!

No real changes to report on Thorne and Snaith, except to say that the "Bell & Crown" now has a fourth handpump! Great news!

"Tonik" on Wood Street in Doncaster Town Centre has been selling an ever-changing cask conditioned ale at the astonishing price of £1.50! Several of us sampled the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin recently and it was excellent! Also in the Town Centre, the "Plough" offered Acorn Mild for CAMRA's "Make May a Mild Month" campaign. Milds have also been available at the "Red Lion" in the Market Place and the "Gate House" on Priory Walk. Please let me know of other venues supporting this cause and I'll give a fuller report in the next issue.

Information just received - the "Paddock" at Cantley has apparently increased its range to include Old Speckled Hen. Good news!

Thank you to all you hard-working contributors - it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!
